26. Rolling Hills
Artist: Sam Norman
Rolling Hills was created by ceramics artist Sam Norman to portray a freshly plowed farm field during fall harvest. He created the piece in 2013 in his student studio while attending Minnesota State University Moorhead.
Most of my work at this point revolved around my relationship with and mentorship from Warren Olsen (curator of the art collection at M State). This was part of a body of work that related to the road trips we would take together and the moments we would stop at landscapes and talk about art, shape and design.
Following his introduction to ceramics at M State, Norman earned a BFA with an emphasis in ceramics from MSUM. He subsequently attended an artist residency in North Carolina, then operated a private pottery studio in his hometown of Fergus Falls for several years before he began a full-time career in tattooing.
